Movie Review: Jesus Camp
OK, I saw Jesus Camp the other day. It’s an A&E documentary about evangelical Christians who run a summer camp for their kids called “Kids on Fire”. Here are my initial thoughts:
AHHH!!! AHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! SWEETVIRGINKRISHNAPUPPIEESSSAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
… what in Great Fat Fucking Buddha’s Name is going ON?!
These kids were praying to a cardboard cutout of GEORGE BUSH!
LIKE HE WAS FUCKING JESUS!!! HAVEN’T THEY LISTENED TO THAT INCUBUS SONG??
…oh god, I’m just…damn…I…you know you think you know how bad it is…but then you…fuck…it’s so bad.
I mean I believe in letting people teach their kids the way they want but I also believe in the the freedom to have your own beliefs and these kids don’t have a chance. From day one, since they could talk, they’ve been turned into tiny robots. One kid said he was saved at age five because he wanted “more out of life”. At age five?! Same kid’s mom told him, “now isn’t it interesting how science can’t prove anything?” And this innocent kid just nods his head because that’s all he knows. This ten year old girl goes around bowling alleys telling random people that god loves them. That he has a plan for them.
Now, I’m a liberal - fine. But bias or no bias, you have to see it to believe it. These adults prey on these kids, they make them weep and hate themselves for their sins. They watch them carefully. These camp leaders, pastors, the parents. And the other kids too. A complete herd mentality. “Who wants ice cream” becomes “who has sinned against god today?!”
They are taught that the whole world is bad. That jesus is gonna come really soon. That the muslims are acting up. That they need to fight. They need to bring jesus into the government.
You can’t talk about the artistry in this documentary because it’s not about that. It’s an expose of 30M Americans, all rabid voters, all engineering themselves to be the Christian counterparts of the new Islamic fundamentalism movement. And it does its job very well.
In the future you will see these people rushing headfirst into the White House and Congress, eager to take over politically (they’ve already had two of their ilk in the White House for two terms.)
And they want to arm. They want their kids to be able to kill themselves for their cause.
The Orwell in me pictures bright, blue-eyed kids exploding in abortion clinics. Do you think they’ll stop there? What’s to stop them from blowing up book stores that carry Harry Potter (a villain among their ranks) or targeting minority neighborhoods, democratic politicians’ houses, parts of NY and DC? Or will Americans be travelling overseas to destroy Palestinian neighborhoods, or in Iraq learning the skills they need to bring their war against muslims back home to the liberals and atheists?
Do you even know how many KKK members are being trained by the army right now?
The bitch who runs the place had the audacity to say that democracy is the best form of government on earth but it’s own downfall will come because it guarantees equal rights for everyone.
There’s the sinister truth to their motives. A person advocating that catholics, muslims, jews, hindu, agnostics, atheists - should not have the same rights as Christians. Fascism and religious intolerance united and politcally active, wanting to be militarily active. That person is “teaching” this to children. Their intention is to amass an army. And the final goal is nothing but a Christian Kingdom ruled by an all-powerful leader (Bush?), in power until jesus comes back to take them to heaven.
Children have been compromised. Their free will shattered. And they want nothing else but to bring us into the fray - or “take care” of us.
Edit:
It’s important in these times to remember to temper ourselves. The right is staunch about people falling in line with their world view. Wrong. You cannot, in a free, democratic society, fault anyone for being a dissident. Democracy feeds on this contradictory idea. It is nothing without an argument. And those on the left cannot force themselves on the right either. The right path is choice because there is room for both sides. We cannot force these parents to abstain from this method of child-rearing. But we must protect ourselves from their advances against us. So live and let live but prepare to die for the choice. The issue here is not a disgusting distortion of Christianity or religion. It is the fundamentals of our society. Fascism and tyranny mustn’t be tolerated.
I saw jesus camp yesterday. scary, sure. Wondering if you caught that quote somewhere towards the end. I only got the first part, where they said India is the most religious country in the world (do you agree?), then some comments about swedes, and then some correlation with christians. If you by chance recall the full quote, please send it 2 me
