Storms a’brewin.

So not only have we been stripping innocent people of their international and constitutional rights for 6 years now - holding them indefinitely without habeas corpus or even the ability to contact loved ones, unable to disprove their falsely assumed guilt - but we can now do it to one another!

Recently, the 2006 Military Commissions Act was rushed into passing by Republicans fearful of losing their majority in November. In the bill, U.S. citizens can now be deemed “unlawful enemy combatants”.

Meaning: you piss off the government enough, you can be held in a secret prison here or overseas (care to see the heart of Siberia, friend?) for as long as they want. Under the guise of the war on terror.

And what does it take to piss off the government? Donate to a charity or PAC that opposes the current administration. Make a public speech admonishing their policies. Write a book that portrays them in a negative light. Speak the truth they do not want spoken. What will they see? Funding a terrorist organisation. Inciting anarchy among the public. Divulging classified information. They will see a sheep that needs to relearn how to bleat.

Some are doubtful that this matters. That they’d actually have the balls to imprison American citizens. But revolution in society doesn’t necessarily need to be instantaneous. Perestroika didn’t happen overnight. What I see is the gears of the Bush machine turning. The Republicans are desperate to hold onto their power, not as a means to accomplish any goal but simply to have that power.

When men greed for power they mustn’t be given an inch. Over the past decade, we’ve given them miles and miles.

People need to realize that safety is not an even exchange for freedom. Freedom in a controlled society is transparent. What you are giving into is the right to not think and have your actions done for you.

Others believe that checks and balances will correct this attack against the constitution. Consider an executive branch that supports this bill and a judicial branch that leans to the right.

What would it take for a Fascistic Christian revolution to take place in this country?

Step 1: Mobilize a vocal, active political base.

In this case: evangelicals and social conservatives. Make sure they hate people of different colors and beliefs. Feed them Jesus crackers.

Step 2: A Republican majority obsessed with one goal.

Well, we’ve had one since Gingrich’s revolution in 1994. And we’ve seen the downward spiral we’ve felt since then. From their constant aggression towards President Clinton, who considered bin Laden a serious threat unlike Bush does now, to the last six, terrifying years.

Step 3: Power.

Threaten your enemies. Invent lies and speak of them like they’re truth. Use a constant media source that supports you as your outlet to the masses. Grab big business money. Fuck ‘em then leave ‘em. Slander. Kill. Murder. Plot.

Step 4: Fear.

The Republicans were waiting for a miracle and it happened six years ago. Fear comes by chance but it is a vital element. Fear is the enemy and you control fear.

Step 5: Law.

Slowly shape the laws to fuel the control, to gain more power. Shift around the role your party, your faction, plays until the nature of politics is that you win. This is cheating but cheating means everyone (important) wins.

Step 6: The Vice.

This is what I like to call the vice. First, you raise the terror alert to its highest setting. Then write up a list of people. This will include all sorts of dissidents. Mobilize ground troops and take the names into detention. This list includes several key Democrats (look for critics of the war and pro-choicers), reporters (responsible ones outside Fox), and activists. But try to keep it under the radar. Then you attack.

Step 7: The Attack.

With a choke hold on the law and powerful opponents under wraps - all “legally” done - you stage an attack. Yes, this is the conspiracy theory part. This is where the part of me that read Watchmen too much comes in but - Stalin did it all the time and I really don’t put it above the Republicans. So here’s what you do. You find out what the terror plot is, where it’s targeted, and when. Then you do nothing about it. Burn all evidence. Shred it, just burn it. Fire anyone who doesn’t comply - no, detain them. And their families. And anyone who will miss them. Then you watch as the Empire State Building falls, or Mt. Rushmore crumbles, or the Statue of Liberty tumbles into the sea.

Hell you may not even need an attack. Fabricate it. And then declare martial law. Get a Congress (now without many of the opposing party) to declare you President for Life.

Step 8: Sit back and wait for JC.

Jesus gonna come and take you all away. In the meanwhile, exterminate the heretics. Yeah, just like that.

Step 9: Oreos.

Oreo’s fuckin rule.

Step 10: Kill the emo bands.

OK so this isn’t so bad…

And maybe my imagination has the best of me but do you honestly think power isn’t hypnotizing enough to make men kill other men? WAKE UP.

And as far as hope goes there doesn’t seem to be any.

Neither do I trust the Democrats, but at least we might get a better minimum wage with them. Politics ain’t like the good ol’ days, when Harry Truman would drive around to company headquarters during WWII and demand they not profiteer off the war. Back when the majority of the government wasn’t bought.

Sigh.
